 Basements worldwide suffer from groundwater leaks, everything from some damp in a corner to full flooding. Water can leak in through the floor, walls and the joints between them, making your basement moist and a perfect environment for mold, rot, and odor. There are solutions to a wet basement, but some are much better than others.
Some recommend exterior excavation to put in drainage around the outside of your foundation, but this is costly and likely will suffer from the same problems as the previous system. Another might recommend negative-side sealant, a waterproof paint or cement that will stop leaks – until it starts to peel – and then not only lets water in but looks awful too.
 A subfloor or baseboard drainage system, however, both provide much better and permanent solutions. There are problems with these systems as well, such as keeping the drain clear of mud or debris so the system doesn't clog. These systems often work great for years without a problem, but with most installations it is only a matter of time before a clogged subfloor or subsurface drain causes a water issue.
One often overlooked problem is allowing a subfloor system to take water leaking from the walls without having a large gap at the edge of the floor. Leaving such a big space is simply asking to collect dirt and debris – and clogging the system.
