Dust mites don't drink water, but absorb it out of the air through their skin. In order to live, dust mites need relative humidity over 50%. Venting To or From the Outside

When trying to dry an interior space, you never want to leave windows or vents open, or use a fan to blow air in or out. If you blow air out, new unconditioned air from the exterior will replace it, entering from somewhere in the building envelope.

This new unconditioned air will need to be heated, cooled and dehumidified to be comfortable, adding substantial "hidden" costs to your heating and cooling bills. Keep windows, doors and vents to the outside.

What's downstairs... is upstairs! The basement or crawl space is part of the inside of a building as a whole. If there is high humidity and musty odors downstairs, it will affect the upstairs environment.
